Lover's Leap, Sri Lanka

Perched high in the Central Highlands, Nuwara Eliya is one of Sri Lanka's oldest and finest tea regions. In these misty mountain slopes and valleys, at altitudes up to 2000 metres, tea bushes grow interspersed with fragrant eucalyptus, cypress and wild mint. We selected this premium Pekoe from a single garden just below the famous Lover's Leap waterfall. Harvested after the cool northeast winds have dried the fresh leaf growth, the tea is bursting with crisp fragrance. We love this Pekoe's balance, showing off the quality of the leaves while expressing the fragrance of the Nuwara Eliya terroir.

Although only small, Sri Lanka is the world's fourth largest tea producing country thanks to its near-perfect conditions. Rugged and mountainous, Sri Lanka's teas (which are known by the country's colonial name 'Ceylon') are classified by the height at which they grow. Low-grown teas from below 600 metres are strong and full-bodied, while medium-grown teas from 600 to 1200 metres are more rounded. But for connoisseurs, only high-grown teas will do, like this blissful Lover's Leap. At over 1800 metres, the tea bushes grow slowly on the misty mountain slopes, creating truly elegant teas.

THE ART OF PREPARATION

LOVER'S LEAP BLACK TEA

  • 2 TPS

  • 100ºC

  • 3-5 MINS

  • ONE STEEP

This is our recommended brewing guide, but by all means adjust to your own taste.

  1. Warm your teapot and cups with boiling water.
  2. Discard the water and add two level teaspoons of tea to your pot.
  3. Add 250ml / 9oz water (i.e. one teacup or small mug) at 100°C / 212°F.
  4. Place the lid on the pot and steep for three-to-five minutes. Stir, then strain the tea into your cup.
  5. Serve with a slice of lemon or splash of milk, as desired.
Makes one cup. For more, add an extra teaspoon per person and multiply the amount of water accordingly.
Always use freshly-drawn and, where possible, filtered water.

A perfect tea

For years I have enjoyed green teas, my favourites being an oolong or sencha and I haven't dabbled much with high quality black teas until this one. My daughter recommended that I try this one and highly recommended it. I have to say that I'm a convert. It brews to a gorgeous crisp orange colour and creates a wonderful perfume. Taste wise is fresh, lively and delicious. Very enjoyable.

This will become my favourite black tea

This will become my favourite black tea. I tried the Lovers Leap tea pure and with a slice of lemon. I loved the taste of the tea with lemon though. It has an amazing taste, with a bit of savoury flavour and a very light aroma, at the same the tea taste stays quite long with you after you have drunk it. My friends also liked this tea -we enjoyed it with a raspberry cake and some light pastries.

A really great gift!

I consider myself to be somewhat of a tea connoisseur. I discovered the Galerie Du The range and decided to treat myself and I was not disappointed. Having previously purchased teas from all the other obvious companies, I can definitely say that this tea is a step above the rest - the freshness really comes through.

The tea comes in really nice packaging as well, so makes a great gift!
